NRG Energy’s million-dollar renovation of Isles’ YouthBuild Institute in Trenton is complete. The project, which nearly triples the size of the institute, has transformed a former paint warehouse on Tucker Street into an educational facility for at-risk youth.
A ceremonial ribbon cutting at the new school was held on Thursday, June 4.
YouthBuild Institute annually engages hundreds of at-risk youth in central New Jersey and points them on a path to a high school diploma, a career, and greater self-reliance.
The renovation expanded classrooms and added a new library, computer room, and woodworking area on the first floor. The second floor, previously empty, was fitted with climate-controlled classrooms, which will be used for energy and solar education, as well as breakout rooms and restrooms. The building also is now 100-percent handicapped accessible, with new energy efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems.
Tyco International recently gave $25,000 to the West Windsor Arts Council to help pay to convert the Princeton Junction Firehouse on Alexander Road into the West Windsor Arts Center. Converting the 3,200-square-foot space into a 125-seat performance center is expected to begin by year’s end and cost more than $1 million.
