Orchid Cellmark, a provider of identity genetics and DNA testing services, has signed contracts with five police departments in the United Kingdom, totaling $1.2 million, to conduct DNA analysis of crime scene samples for submission to the National DNA Database. The contracts are good for three years and extendable to seven.

As part of a recent round of Department of Defense contracts, Sarnoff Corporation has received a $6.9 million contract for 50 standard ground station maintenance kits in support of the rapid aerostat initial deployment (RAID) system. RAID refers to lighter-than-air devices that carry sensitive military equipment. The shipment will go to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Integra, which develops medical devices to treat cranial and spinal disorders and soft tissue damage, has named Peter Arduini as its new president and COO, effective November 1. According to CEO Stuart Essig, Arduini will have direct responsibility for all the company’s operations, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, and instruments. He succeeds Gerard Carlozzi, retiring at the end of 2010.
Arduini most recently was a vice president at Baxter Healthcare, where he headed a $4.8 billion global division for medical devices to pharmaceuticals. Prior to Baxter he spent 15 years at GE Healthcare, most recently as general manager of its global functional and computer tomography business.
