Saint Francis Medical Center: Heart Expertise

St. Francis Medical Center opened its doors in 1874 to provide quality healthcare, personal service, convenience, and education to the residents of the Greater Trenton Area. After 138 years, St. Francis is still achieving its mission of being a transforming healing presence in the community. And while the hospital building may not be brand new, the facilities, service, and technology are second to none. Located on the corners of Hamilton and Chambers in the Chambersburg section of Trenton, St. Francis serves the healthcare needs of a dynamic, growing, diverse community in Trenton city, Mercer County and Burlington County and is most known for its excellence in cardiac care.

As the only state licensed full service cardiac program in Mercer County, St. Francis Medical Center provides the community a full range of heart services. These include general cardiac diagnostics with the latest state of the art equipment for imaging and nuclear scanning, and cardiac catheterization procedures performed by highly skilled interventional cardiologists in two new modern cath labs where angioplasties are performed to open blocked coronary vessels via stents. Electro physiological procedures to correct arrhythmias are done in a newly upgraded EP lab. Also, a program to address cardiac issues (such as Congestive Heart Failure) helps those with heart disease manage their condition effectively to preserve the quality of life and avoid multiple hospitalizations due to the effects of Congestive Heart Failure.

The cardiac surgery program at St. Francis Medical Center is what brings the total service line to completion and sets St. Francis apart from other hospitals. The Cardiothoracic surgery division at St. Francis is staffed by a highly trained and experienced team from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. They specialize in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, aortic aneurysm repair, and implantation of left ventricular assist (LVAD) devices.

“St. Francis is proud to have the team of surgeons from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School lead our cardiac surgery program. This partnership continues the trend of excellence and quality for the members of our community and maintains the top ratings of our program as it has from its inception,” says Jerry Jablonowski, president and CEO of St. Francis Medical Center.

St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Catholic Health East, is an acute care teaching hospital most noted for its Cardiac Surgery program and the first accredited Stroke Center in the county. St. Francis features regional services including the Heart Hospital, a Regional Cancer Center, LIFE St. Francis (Living Independently For Elders), LifeCare Physicians, PC, which includes Primary Care and Surgery throughout the region, a Sleep Disorder Center, and an extensive Community Outreach Program.
