After 41 years on the Board of Directors of Roma Bank and Roma Financial Corp., chairman and executive vice president Maurice Perilli announced that he will retire on Thursday, June 30. He will then be designated emeritus director and will provide consulting assistance to the boards and the executive management, according to Roma.
Perilli was elected to the Roma board in 1970. In 1977 he joined the management end of the bank as vice president and manager of what was then Roma Savings and Loan Association. He was later appointed executive vice president. He became chairman of the board in 2005.
During his time with Roma Perilli has overseen the bank’s expansion from a single office to 24 in four counties.
Perilli, the son of Italian immigrants, was born in Trenton 92 years ago. Perilli was indoctrinated into the printing business at the age of seven. After World War II Perilli started Abco Printing in Hamilton and later bought Commercial Printing and the Mercer Messenger. His sons now run the printing businesses.
Perilli remains a member of the Trenton Economic Development Committee, Trenton Business Assistance Corporation, the Hamilton Township Redevelopment Authority, and the Hamilton Partnership. A past chairman of the board of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton, he remains a trustee.
Perilli served as a committeeman, mayor, and police commissioner of Hamilton Township from 1961 to 1978. He also served 12 years as a member of the Hamilton Township Planning Board and six years as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Peter Inverso, Roma’s president and CEO, called Perilli’s retirement “a very poignant day,” adding, “it is an understatement to say that Maury has earned the right to a slower pace.”
