Mercer County Community College is launching its inaugural Presidential Forum on Educational Equity on Thursday, May 2, at Kelsey Theatre on MCCC’s West Windsor Campus located at 1200 Old Trenton Road. The event, which is free and open to the public, kicks off with a reception at 11:30 a.m. followed by a lecture by speaker Dr. Tia Brown McNair at noon.

This year’s topic “From Equity Talk to Equity Walk: Moving from Intent to Practice,” focuses on how to build a shared understanding of the importance of educational equity, and the collective responsibility for creating a culture of mutual belonging and equal opportunities for success. The session will address practical strategies for equity goals based on national projects focused on student success and outlined in McNair’s book, “From Equity Talk to Equity Walk.” The intent is to foster a deeper understanding of equity issues in higher education by utilizing resources to create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Developed as a platform for deep discussion, thought sharing, and collaboration, MCCC welcome McNair who will share her expert knowledge on educational equity. As vice president in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Student Success and executive director for the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) Campus Centers at the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) in Washington, DC, McNair oversees projects on equity, inclusive excellence, high-impact practices, and student success. She is the co-author of books discussing equal opportunities in higher education as well as the recipient of numerous awards for her efforts to support student success.

“We are incredibly pleased to welcome Dr. McNair,” said MCCC President Deborah E. Preston. “This collaboration is a chance for us to learn from each other and help support the educational goals of all students.”
